Mario Kart Wii paired Nintendo's kart-racing formula with motion controls and the pack-in Wii Wheel, introducing motorbikes alongside karts for the first time in the series. Online play via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection -- already established on the DS entry -- expanded to twelve simultaneous racers here, the largest field the franchise had offered yet. It was the first Mario Kart on a home console since Double Dash on GameCube five years earlier.
